VCS Information

  • Heart Testing
The Veterinary Cardiovascular Society (VCS) provides heart testing by its members who have postgraduate qualifications and experience in cardiology. All testers listed on this site must have passed a rigorous assessment protocol in addition to their post-graduate study in order to be listed. The VCS does not recommend having your animals screened by anybody not listed on this site, owing to the inability for us to provide any quality control. Heart testing schemes are performed at the request of breed clubs, in association with the VCS and in agreement with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.

  • Postgraduate Qualifications
The American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM), European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ECVIM-CA) and Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) offer postgraduate traning at Diploma (Specialist or Consultant) level to vets with an interest in Cardiology. These training programmes take a minumum of three years and require research and publication to achieve. The RCVS offers the Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice (CertAVP) which allows general practice vets to express an interest in Cardiology, but is not a Specialist level qualification. A list of Advanced Practitioners (certificate holders) and Specialists (Diploma holders) is available on the RCVS website.
