Introduction to Advanced Stifle Surgery (TTA)

Description - The stifle is the most commonly entered joint and frequently required in general practice, yet can be the most frustrating to treat, especially when the cruciate is involved. Consideration of the multiple options for surgical management can be bewildering. Introduction to Internal Fixation

Two-Day Practical Orthopaedics Course- Forelimb and Hindlimb Fracture Repair

Date of Event - 16th & 17th April 2018

Description - This two day strongly practical cadaver based course with Georg Haimel, will introduce delegates to the basic surgical and orthopaedic principles of management of some of the most common fractures affecting the forelimb and hindlimb in dogs and cats. Each practical cadaver session will be complemented by a theoretical introduction and review of the surgical considerations required in order to achieve successful fracture repairs. Day one will cover transverse radius and ulnar shaft fractures, lateral condylar fractures of the humerus and olecranon fractures. Day two will cover supracondylar fracture of the distal femur, tibial tuberosity fracture, femoral shaft fracture repair, and comminuted or butterfly fragment tibial fracture. Practical Orthopaedics: TPLO Surgery

Date of Event - 26th October 2018

Venue - London

Organiser - Central CPD

Description - This one day highly practical cadaver based course with lecturers; Martin Owen and Georg Haimel, focuses on the tibial plateau leveling osteotomy (TPLO) procedure for the treatment of cranial cruciate disease. The course is aimed at veterinary surgeons that are familiar with basic orthopaedic procedures and the use of implants including plates and screws. Starting with a review of the relevant surgical anatomy and biomechanics of the TPLO procedure before a detailed discussion of preoperative radiograph assessment and the surgical planning that is required for surgical success. The majority of the day will then consist of wet lab practical cadaver surgery allowing delegates to implement this knowledge and develop their surgical skills. Topics to be covered include -Surgical anatomy -Stifle biomechanics -Surgical planning and execution of a TPLO procedure -TPLO complications and management of them.
